Star Rock Shop is the oldest sweet shop in Scotland, continuously producing rock from the same premises in the Roods of Kirriemuir for nearly 200 years.

Star Rock is an original recipe using only real oil flavour – created by a mason who was blinded and had to change jobs in 1833. It was in his family for over 120 years and the recipes have been passed on with each new owner since.

Star Rock is made on the premises. The main original rock is a light lemon and a very popular flavour is Horehound. You can also find Treacle Toffee, Tablet, and the wee Kirrie secret of Cream Rock. During summer months we also sell Stewart Tower Ice Cream in various flavours.

The shop used to supply star rock to JM Barrie and send it to London when he moved, it has also been presented to the Queen and HRH Princess Mary.

Purchases can be made on the website which are available for delivery to any UK postcode.

Opening Times:
Tuesday to Saturday – 10am to 5pm

Two years ago, Heather went on a course to make chocolates, came home enthused and set about mixing flavours and types of chocolate. She found that a good quality Belgian chocolate suited her needs and has continued to use it throughout the product development process.

Heather started making truffles to help fund her trip to Africa to The Mercy Ships. She soon found that this outstripped the amount required and decided to continue making them as a small business. Baked by Belle was established!

You can buy these chocolates at local farmers markets and food & craft fairs, Christmas markets or contact Baked by Belle directly.

Chocolatia creates award winning chocolates, made with ethical, sustainable chocolate and fresh local ingredients. The business was founded in 2020 by local chocolatier Chloe Oswald.

Anyone who knows Chloe will tell you that chocolate is her world. It’s no coincidence that all the letters of her name, Chloe, appear in the word chocolate; they are kindred spirits. Both of her grandmothers taught her all the basics of baking and, often when she is developing a new creation or recipe, she thinks back to the days they would spend in the kitchen, cooking and laughing.

Chloe founded Chocolatia as a way of expressing her personality through her work. After refining her pastry skills for several years, under the expert eye of the chefs in the two Michelin-starred restaurant Andrew Fairlie and at Gleneagles, she felt ready to take the plunge. With the support of her friends, family, colleagues and suppliers she finally found the confidence and courage to set up on her own.

From those early memories in her grandmother’s kitchen, and her days studying professional Patisserie at City of Glasgow College, to her life-changing opportunity at Gleneagles – where she’s had the privilege of representing the UK in global culinary competitions, creating bespoke chocolate room gifts, and built show stopping chocolate sculptures for events like the Solheim Cup – Chloe is delighted to introduce people to her very own brand, Chocolatia, which is one part passion, one part knowledge, two parts hard work, all mixed together with a generous dollop of love.

At Chocolatia, Chloe makes her chocolates using only the finest ingredients, including Valrhona chocolate which is renowned for its high quality and outstanding flavours. She is also deeply proud of her Scottish heritage, and enjoys showcasing the wonder of Scotland’s natural larder in her creations, from fresh Perthshire berries to her favourite botanicals such as elderflower which grows in abundance in Angus and it’s surrounding areas.

All Chloe’s chocolates are designed to be absolutely devoured, either with a cup of tea, a dram of whisky, a glass of champagne, or shared with someone special over a kiss and a cuddle, and she hopes they sweeten your day!

Chocolatia products are available to order online on the shop section of the Chocolatia website. These are posted via Royal Mail and local collection can also be arranged.

Products are also available to purchase at a selection of shops throughout Scotland. Please see the stockists section of the website for more information.

Chocolatia can also provide delicious bespoke chocolates to help celebrate special events, weddings and corporate events to create a truly unique and personal gifting experience.
